Is gambling money given to the church a sin
  • David - In Reply - 3 years ago
I believe that the Lord don't look at what we do wrong, but he looks at our attitudes towards him and his will. The Lord is not interested in the stupid things and the mistakes we make in life, he is more concerned about our growth. Money is a natural thing, these things the Lord will forgive easily. It is when we cannot keep the commandments of Love, that is what the Lord is more concerned about. When we cannot Love our neighbor as we love our self and when we cannot Love God above all things. That is what the Lord wants us to grow in, if we do that, then the other things will slowly fade away. This is a process, and it will take time.

Poor people gamble because they don't think that they have enough money and they want more , a poor Christian should not gamble , they should trust that God will show them a way to get through their financial problems , rich people gamble because they want even more money ,either way is not good ,Matthew ch13 ,Mark ch10 , Luke ch16 , I used to love playing roulette when I was young , I thought I was very clever because I had a system and more often than not it worked , that was the worst thing that could have happened to me , winning makes you think you will win again , I stopped before I lost and vowed never to go again , I loved roulette , I have to be strong because I know I would still like to play it , in the same way I would still like a cigarette , both things are bad for me , you must trust in God that he will help you find a way out of your difficulties , gambling to me shows a lack of faith in God's provision and care for you , that's just my opinion .

We all have our own views and we look at things differently, we

misunderstand and misinterpret things and it is all because of our

point of view. We must be careful, I see nothing wrong with gambling.

The only thing about gambling that is uncomfortable is when you must

suffer the consequences of loosing your money. And that is something

that you must suffer yourself. That happened to me a couple of times,

but it most certainly did not effect my faith and trust in the Lord at

all. And it did not change the way I feel about God. In fact, my faith

and trust in the Lord became even stronger. A christian that don't

gamble is no better than a gambler. This is something that the Lord

    wants mankind to understand.

Let me explain this to you. Many people believe that smoking is a sin,

and they are right, because it is a sin. But why is smoking a sin? It

is a sin because when you smoke, then you cause yourself harm and you

also harm those around you. Does the fumes of a motor vehicle not do

exactly the same? In fact it is far more dangerous than that of a

cigarette. And whosoever gets into any form of transport, is guilty of

the same. So how can we ever escape sin? it is impossible. And don't

forget about the electrical power plants how much pollution they

cause, and even the sweet things we eat and the chemicals we spray on

our bodies. The list is endless. We do all these ungodly things and

are too blind to see it. And can sometimes so easily tell others what

christian s should and should not be doing. The Lord knows that we

cannot escape sin. And that is the reason why he gave his life as a

price for our sins. We must believe in the Love of God if we want to

make a change for the better in our lives. And only he can deliver us

from sin and from evil. This is a process. And it will take time.

I agree with everything you have said here about gambling. The only thing about gambling is as long as you don't let it get out of hand it is not a sin. When I say this, I mean don't let it get the better of you as everything else don't let gambling or whatever you are doing get to the point that you have to suffer serious consequences.
  • Sacha - In Reply - 3 years ago
Marilyn , you do know that this is a Bible site yes ? If not , I suggest you read the New testament and pay particular attention to Jesus attitude and relationship towards money , his attitude towards it should also be ours if we are trying to be as much like him as we possibly can .

There is an advert in the window of a betting shop here in the u.k. ,it says "gamble responsibly " . In England we call that an oxymoron .
  • Sacha - In Reply - 3 years ago
David , I recognise your attitude , it's the attitude of some one trying to justify their actions , I know because I've done it myself many times , when you recognise it yourself you will stop gambling , may God strengthen you and bless you and bring you closer to him .
  • David - In Reply - 3 years ago
Dear Sacha, If you can recognize my attitude like you say you do, then you would have known that I am from God because I speak the truth. Prove me wrong. And if you were from God then you would have known that what I'm saying is true. Prove me wrong.

David , I am sorry , I seem to have provoked you and that was definitely not my intention , I hope you will forgive me .

Greetings in the name of Christ. God does not want "dirty money" brought into His house. He states in Deuteronomy 23:18, "thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the LORD thy God." The word "dog" is a reference to a male prostitute. One does not know the source of the money he or she receives in the winnings from gambling, some of which could be "dirty money" (e.g., gotten from white collar crime, theft, drug sales, the sale of pornographic literature). Undoubtedly, this is why God instituted the tithe so that His house would be maintained by "clean" money earned from honest work on one's job. The tithe can also apply to all times of income. Thank you and May God bless you!

    LEON DAVIS ,

from whom you learned that "the word dog in Deuteronomy 23:v.18 is a reference to a male prostitute. One does not know the source of the money he or she receives in the winnings from gambling, some of which could be "dirty money" (e.g., gotten from white collar crime, theft, drug sales, the sale of pornographic literature)?

See, the Word is GOD. GOD did not refer to the things you said above by your interpretation of GOD's Word regardings to the "dog"; no, absolutely, the Word does not refer to those things you have said.

That said, who is he to whom the Word of God refers to as DOG? - GOD answers us by His Word- Isaiah 56:v.10-12:

10 His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb DOGS, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.

11 Yea, they are greedy DOGS which can never have enough, and they ARE SHEPHERDS that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.

12 Come ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink (false doctrines); and to morrow shall be as this day, and much more abundant.

Paul Apostle warned: Philippians 3:v.2 - Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the circuncision.

And JESUS left very very clear, saying: Revelation 22:v.15-16

15 For without are DOGS, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

Dear LEON DAVIS, what you wrote above has nothing to do with the Word of GOD. Your interpretation of the Word of GOD- Deuteronomy 23:v.18- is a mere human conception of you, something from your imagination, or even conjectures, opinions, or guessings.

Be careful with the Word of GOD. The Word is GOD, understand?

Brother Oseas, May God bless you. Christ warns us against judging ( Matt. 7:1). We are all on this discussion page to share and enlighten each other in an atmosphere of love with diplomacy, not in condescending warnings and hasty assessments of a fellow believer's level of knowledge or intent.

Strongs is the oldest and one of the most highly respected concordances in all of Christendom. I would like to direct you to the Strongest Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, 21st Century Edition, in the Hebrew section, entry 3611, to the word keleb, which is the transliteration of the Hebrew word from which the word "dog" is translated in Deuteronomy 23:18. The various definitions are: "dog, by extension of a person of low status, a dead dog, an immoral person; male prostitute." I chose the definition of male prostitute because the word "dog" is used in Deuteronomy 23:18 next to the word "whore," and the simultaneous use of both terms indicates bedroom immorality. Also, there is strong contextual evidence in the preceding verse, Deuteronomy 23:17, which prohibits women from being prostitutes and males from being sodomites.

Also, if you read the post carefully, I never stated that the word dog referred to white collar crime, theft, etc. Rather, they were all listed as sources of "dirty money."

Brother, if you google "what were male prostitutes called in the Bible" you will find the words kadesh and keleb, the last of which I cited above. Also, you might want to consult online commentaries about Deuteronomy 23:18. Have a blessed day.

I found this to be very interesting yes I believe in everything you're saying but the thought came to me what about the lady in the Bible who seven devils were cast out of or either she was a prostitute did she pour oil on the feet of the Lord and washed it with her hair where did that money come from?

I don't mean for this to be a mean question but I'm trying to learn myself it's just a thought that came to me as I was reading your article the thought or question just leaped out of the page and I'm wondering and trying to learn myself concerning questions like this. What would be your thought?

    Sacha,

I win fair amounts of bank betting pro sports, weekly. The games are all rigged by special numbers and Gematria decodes and exposes. You would panic if you knew what they do to keep the house on top. Games are picked seasons in advance. If you want a golfer to sink an 80 ft putt, use magnets.
