How do you know you are experiencing godly sorrow 2 Corinthians 7:10-11 that leads to repentance? Is there a way to be sure that you are properly repented toward GOD and not causing yourself a guilt trip which does not lead to change or glorify GOD? Also another serious question, what do you suggest if you feel like sin doesn't bother you like it used to? Just pray about it?
our eyes continuously on Jesus, not on ourselves. Not on perfecting ourselves, sanctifying ourselves or improving ourselves. Our eyes only upon Him... that is the only way to deal with pernicious self-love. We might as well admit it now, we will never be anything but filthy rags. Only Jesus is the perfect love of God we seek.....
Hello Lex. Those are good questions that we all probably have to deal with at some time in our Christian walk. You asked a couple of questions: I'll look at the second one, first.
"Sin that doesn't bother you as before". Usually, the reason for this dilemma, is because we have been entertaining that sin in our lives for too long, making it acceptable & justifiable in our minds. And when that one sin becomes acceptable, usually there are other sins that are lining up for your approval. Sin has to be seen for what it is. To the person without Christ, he has a list of commandments in the Bible, even his own conscience, that will alert him to what is sin & what displeases God. To those in Christ, the Holy Spirit within immediately checks our spirit & thoughts when sin is at the door or has even been allowed inside.
Suggestions? Go back into the Word, read & digest what God sees as sin & bring up that sin(s) before Him. Is there anything other than that specific sin that is holding back the Spirit of God from speaking to you? Even things such as wilfulness, obstinacy, anger, pride can be easily overlooked, that prevents the Spirit from breaking through to speak to your heart.
"Experiencing godly sorrow". Godly sorrow is a wonderful thing. The counterpart is a heart full of praise. In both experiences, the heart is deeply affected: one, where there is a wrenching of spirit, being overcome by the depth & volume of sin, & the other, a heart full of uncontainable joy as we get lost in the wonder of the greatness & graciousness of our God.
When a heart is filled with godly sorrow (as for sin), all it can do is cry out in anguish & for mercy. Take hold of God's Word & its Promises. I think of Mark 2:17: "(Jesus) saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." It is Jesus' Call to all sinners (those sick in soul): that there is full healing when there is repentance.
