Do those under the new covenant have to keep the sabbath? I thought Jesus fulfilled the sabbath.

In Genjesus it says that after God had finished the work of creation he rested on the seventh day. It wasn't until the Law (ten commandments etc) was given in Exodus that God invested the Sabbath day with its holy day character, by giving to the nation of Israel a day of rest thereby separating them from all other nations.

When the Lord Jesus came and through his death instituted a new Covenant through His blood law keeping ended. And rightfully so because it was impossible to keep. Offense in one point was to break the covenant and incur the curse. Jesus lived a perfect life on our behalf and then died to put away our sin through His cross work. Now we have a righteousness through The Lord Jesus that God is willing to except. As the Bible says we are accepted in the beloved.

The Sabbath day is the only commandment not repeated in the New Testament. We do not keep the commandments to earn God's favor but because we are born of God through the New Birth that is being born again from above we desire to please Him and The Lord Jesus Christ and so we accept His desire in living a God honoring Christ exalting life.

Christ arose on Sunday which we refer to as The Lord's Day. We never find the Churches of the New Testament meeting on Saturday (Sabbath) they did meet on Sunday or The Lord's Day and were ceaselessly active on that day for the furtherance of the Gospel.

Here's what Paul states on the Sabbath Roman's 14: 6-6

"One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." "He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it.
