He came in his Father's name, because his Father's name is Jesus. God was known by many names/titles in the past. But it is written that Jesus is God's name, and the only name to fulfill what is clearly written! Such as but not limited to, Malachi 1:11, Jesus name fulfills this. Philippians 2:9, Again, Jesus name is known above every name. Isaiah 9:6 tells us Jesus is God, and St. Matthew 28:19 was followed by the Apostles when they baptized in Jesus name only; the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Acts 2:21, the name that saves!
@ Mark John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Also, Revelations 1.
@Mark...Isaiah prophesied in Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
It appears from both of these scriptures the Word was made flesh at the time of the birth of Christ.
I believe and the government shall be on His be on
His government means.government means that to have
domenion to have rule over a city or state.but during His time. What did it mean when Christ was born and walk into His ministriy or what exactly did Isaiah when the Lord showed him the chosen one?In it's simpless form that a child would understand?Because as I share this word not a soul would like "what'?is the mening of shoulders would it be to carry, like carring us on His shoulders? As they march on to CALVERY known as the skull?
Darrel, Jesus is God! In Isaiah 9:6-7 we read of the foretold birth of Christ but are also given his names: For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. AND.... In John 1 we read: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1 :14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us... Hebrews we read: God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high: ... Hope this helps you see the truth that Jesus is in deed God! :-)
There are is no such thing as God(s). There is only one and his name is Jesus Christ. 1 John 5:7 says there are three that bear record in heaven. The father the word and the holy spirit and these three are one. John 1:1 says in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with GOD the Word was GOD... That whole description was of Jesus. In the bible no one verse stands alone. There is always other verses that compliment and/or justify the initial verse that is being read. Prime example is the two verses I listed. Another example is John 8:58 Jesus said befor Abraham was I Am. In Exodus 3:14 GOD said to Moses I Am that I Am.
Juan, don't be confused. Jesus had many titles in the Bible and they all applied! Here are a few more and where to find them.

The name of the child to be born shall be called The Almighty "God", The everlasting "Father" ( Isaiah 9:6)...the same name "was the Word" and "was with God" and "was God" in the beginning ( John 1:1-2) who "was made flesh" ( John 1:14)...and it was the "Word" of God ( Revelation 19:13)...which is "a name written, that no man knew, but he himself" ( Revelation 19:12)...and it was the "name of the Father" whom Jesus Christ manifested and declared to those whom he has chosen out of this world to KNOW him and his Father ( John 17:1-26)
I believe 1Timothy 3:16 as "G-d revealed in the flesh. eg. Isaiah 9:6 where Jesus is referred to as the "Mighty G-d", Revelation1:8 Jesus is the Alpha & Omega,(The first and the Last) which can only applied to the Almighty G-d. and the "Almighty G-d" in the same verse is applied to Jesus. See also Genesis Chapter 18 where one of the three men is Jehovah.C/F John 4:24;5:37; Coll. 2:8-9
Good for discussion.
You can correct me ok. My thought is that my parents gave me my physical body but GOD put my soul or me in the body. Was Jesus born and GOD put Jesus the person in the body which would be GOD himself?
For the person who wrote "who", what do you do with Isaiah 9:6. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be on his shoulder and his name shall called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Almighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
John 4:24 God is a spirit. That is why no one has ever seen God in fullness.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and and the word was GOd.
John 1:14 The word was made flesh and dwelt among us.
If God is the word and dwelt among us then who is GOd? Jesus would be the flesh.
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
He is the Father, Son and God.
Rev 1:8 and 11 Iam the Alpha and Omega the beginning and the ending, and whish was, which is to come , the Almighty.
11:Saying I am the first and last: etc.......
Isaiah 44:6 Thus saith the Lord King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the lasts and besides Me there is no other GOd.
Only one GOd and He was made flesh and He is the first and Last. Jesus spoke it in Revelation that He was Fist and last.
Only one God, Isaiah speaks of One God and in John 5:7 the three are ONE. The reason Jesus is praying to the father is that He was also flesh and the flesh was not Glorified yet. Yet Jesus did not sin because He couldn't because He was GOd.
This is why Peter can say in Acts what name to be baptized by. Peter knew Jesus as God and His name is above all names.
Jesus asked the question, "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of God." The word Christ or the anointed one had a special meaning to the Jews. They knew it to mean God Himself, who would come and deliver his people from their enemies. "But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village in Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past." "And he will stand to lead his flock with the Lord's strength. ..." ( Micah 5)
Isiah said of him, "For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. And the government will rest on his shoulders. These will be his royal titles: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God. ..." ( Isaiah 9:6)
Don't be confused by the term "Son of God." It is just the way God spoke of himself when he was born as a human.
So the good news is, God has come to save his people. And his name is Jesus the Christ.
Speaking about the advent of Jesus into the world, Isaiah says this in chapter 40: "Listen! I hear the voice of someone shouting, "Make a highway for the LORD through the wilderness, make a straight smooth road through the desert for our GOD. ...Yes, the SOVEREIGN LORD is coming in all his glorious power. ...He will lead his flock like a shepherd." What could be more clearer. Then in Isaiah 9:6 he say: "For unto us a child is born, a son is given to us. ...His name shall be called ... THE MIGHTY GOD and THE EVERLASTING FATHER. ...
Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. AMEM! The Comforter abides with me! (the Holy Spirit) which is Christ. Father=Lord Son=Jesus Holy Spirit=Christ. Yet a little while and the world seeth me no more but ye shall see me. In that day you shall know that I am in the Father and the Father In Me and I in you and you in Me. GLORY!!!
Isaiah 9:6 tells us who Jesus really is. He is the Son, Father and God. Jesus is the name you should be baptized in.( Acts 2:38,19:5,10:48,8:37-38)( 2 Cor 3:1) Out of the mouths of two or three shall the word of God be established. Many times did the scriptures say Jesus name baptism but only once did it sayin the name of Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost( Matthew 28:19) If you put them all together you get the name and that is Jesus. ( Luke 24:47) tells where and what name should remissions of sins and repentence should be preached. Matt, Mark, Luke and John are the books that tell of Jesus's birth, life ,death and resurrection and the resurrection begins in the book of acts and is the beginning of the Church. Jesus gave Peter the authority to speak on the day of pentecost in St John(21:15-17)( Acts 1:2) as well as the first chapter of Acts, whom Jesus chose the apostles.
People try to say well who told the apostles to go and baptize in Matthew 28:19? Jesus of course, I agree but who stopped Saul/Paul on the way to Damascus? The same Jesus? YES! Paul baptized in what way and name? Jesus.( Acts 19:5) No other name( Acts 4:12) as well as One Lord, One Faith and one Baptism ( eph 4:5) People will jump over the book of Acts because of what ever reason. Acts opens up the name. If you don't believe me see what is done in Jesus name in the book of Acts. Do a study but before you do it pray to Jesus and ask for wisdom.
Our society has turned away from God. I felt sad and angry when "God" was taken out of our holidays, our schools; public buildings. We cannot say "Merry Christmas" in an office setting. God is angry at this. Who can help us go back to the way it was before some other groups made a stink that we shouldn't have Christmas trees in public places. So what if we don't have all the other religions celebrations. We didn't start out that way. God is God no matter what religion.
Yes it is true the Godhead is a mystery however in many scriptures Christ identifies Himself as God. John 14:8-9
8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
Revelation 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
Isaiah says it best of all.
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
I would like to help if I can. First, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness". Peter and Jesus cannot be opposed, that would make God at odds with Himself. Also if the Son born is the Everlasting Father, then the Son is the Father. John declares “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. If Matthew 28:19 says the same as what Peter said in Acts 2:38 then you have to understand, Matthew 28:19 is not speaking about anything else but the name, it is stating that the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, is JESUS. The biggest problem most of us have with scripture, we don’t study the word enough. God will always tell the truth, man will hardly even believe the truth. Seek God, not man’s explanation. Let the mind of God direct you and the Love of God comfort you.
@Shailin's John, Matthew 28:19 speaks clearly of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. However if you read this carefully, you will see that Three have just one name. It says "baptizing them into the name (not names) of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit". There are three with one name. This is the Triune God. In the Father we have seen unseen God. In the Son is God revealed, made manifest, and brought nigh; He is the form of God. In the Spirit of God we have the indwelling God. Undoubtedly the Father is God in various places in New Testament speaks of God the Father. The Son is also God Hebrews 1:8. The Spirit is God Acts 5:3,4. Isaiah 9:6 has the term Everlasting Father. Oneness and Trinity doctrine does not belong to Roman Catholics. It is the fundamental truth of the Holy Scriptures. Praise The Lord.
The Word was God, no doubt about it! Consider this in Isaiah 9:6, who is referred to as the everlasting Father? Find out yourself with the Holy's Spirit guidance, also if the New Testament is correct, then does it make Jehovah a liar? Read Isaiah 43:10-11. Jehovah is clearly saying that "before me was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I even I, am the Lord and beside me there is no saviour"... My question is this, why then did he make (a God) as they say in John 1:1? Did he change his mind? Did he forget that the Word was a God (as they claim), Or was the Word God all along??? You decide. "How long halt ye between two opinions"? To God be the Glory.
