Mark; It wasn't true, whatever you were taught that only the original living Apostles could be the vehicles for God giving His Holy Spirit. John the Baptist said, that Jesus was He who would baptize in the Holy Spirit and fire. Jesus Himself, when expounding to the Apostles about the purpose of God for "us" in this world till He returns; said how the Holy Spirit must be in us to fulfill that plan.

To receive the Holy Ghost today you follow the plan of Jesus in Acts 2:38; the people gathered from all over the Roman Emp. in Jerusalem for the Day of Pentecost asked, after hearing Peter's message - Acts 2:37 .....
  • Mark on Acts 8 - 9 years ago
Only with the laying on of the hands of a living Apostle did they receive the Holy Ghost. Simon the sorcerer could see this power and offered money. This is the baptism of the Holy Ghost. How do we receive it today?

    To P. Carboon - water baptism: Jn.3:5 Acts 8:38-39 9:18 10:47-48 16:15, v. 33 9:18
  • Irene123 on Acts 8 - 9 years ago
    V. 4 - Therefore they that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word. If we won't go our ownselves - God will make a way. They did fine in Jerusalem, but the Lord wanted it to the ends of the earth.
  • Irene123 on Acts 8 - 9 years ago
vs. 9-12; all these people were worshippers of witchcraft - for YEARS! And here comes Phillip, preaches about Jesus whom they had NEVER heard and - a MULTITUDE were converted and were - BAPTIZED!! I believe all of it, but how miraculous!!! How GLORIOUS. And we can see that today if we will but have the faith, pray and fast for it; to TRULY care for lost souls.

Baptizing in the name is a commandment Matt. 28:19,20 Acts 10:48 . Mimicking what someone commands is not the same as obeying what is commanded. Jesus commanded His Apostles to baptize in THE one name and they obeyed Acts 8:12,16 10:47,48 19:5 2:38,39 . Only one name has authority to save us Acts 4:11,12 John 20:31 1 Pet. 3:21 Acts 10:43 Eph. 4:5 Mark 16:16 . There was always opposition against the use of the name Acts 4:17,18 5:28,29,39-42 .

To die out of the old ways is not always easy but if you just empty your heart in sincerity God will cleanse you. 1.Death = Repentance 2. Burial = Baptism in Jesus Name 3. Resurrection = The Holy Ghost, which is the spirit of God that you must receive in order to make heaven it wasn't just for Peter and the Apostles read Acts 5 where they commanded them not to preach Jesus but they obey God.
  • Nene on Acts 8 - 10 years ago
If anyone rejects the true plan of salvation of Jesus then all will miss heaven ....in Acts 4:12 tells us there is no other name given under heaven whereby we must be saved it is very important to obey the plan Jesus left us. 1.Is faith 2. Repentance 3. Baptism in Jesus Name 4. Receive the Holy Ghost which is the death, burial and resurrection.

This particular verse is missing in the New World Translation JW Bible. It was footnoted that this was inserted later and not in the original scripture. I will do my best to research this if this is correct and the implication to it.

Simmon in his thoughts thought that he could purchase the Holy Spirit with money and a lot of ways today the same exist. People want things instantly. They want proof but, God is a God who looks at the heart he does not look at our material possessions. God created every thing including money so how can a man buy God? It is impossible except threw repentance and a sinner heart can we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. It is a gift from God one that can not be bought with silver or gold. That's why the word says ask and you shall receive so that your joy may be complete. And when you study and pray and truly seek Gods word will in come to live within you. You must be born again and walk in Christ to be filled with the holy spirit it is such a beautiful and wonderful thing to have the creator of the world and universe live inside of you man it is the best feeling in the world. No drug could replace Gods spirit! being washed and clean from the inside is beautiful amazing, awesome. There is nothing like having Jesus live in you twenty four hours a day seven days a weak. God truly in living inside of you how great is that god living in me wow no better thing in the world than that man to be touched by Jesus is awesome truly awesome! It is truth, it is life, it is Christ living and breathing inside of you and not to testify and tell some one is a crime man when god first touch me with the holy ghost I was blown away so clean so pure it is love literally love living in you.

In Acts chapter 2:38 Peter was addressing Jews on the day of Pentecost, when they asked what must they do verse 37, He Peter said unto them, repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. That was the requirement of the early church. Now, turn to Acts 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words the Holy Ghost fell on them which heard words. In Acts 2:38 the Jews had to repent, be baptized everyone of them in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins in order to receive the Holy Spirit. But, Acts 10:44 they The Gentles received the Holy Spirit without being baptized. They early believers who were Jews still under the old Mosaic covenant at that time. Which was a different dispensation, were required to be water baptized to be saved. But, under the new dispensation according to the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 1 4 all that is required for salvation, "both Jews and Gentles is truly believing in the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, plus nothing. Then we will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Look Acts 16: 30-31 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said Paul and Silas Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. He did not saw they should repent and be baptize. No. all they said was believe!

When I believed , able to receive the truth .. I was rebaptized in the Name of JESUS Christ .... Then, what I thought was three , became "One " again ! ... It is definitely a commandment of GOD through HIS apostles by the HOLY SPIRIT !

The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, One Baptism meaning One way to be baptized in water. In Matthew 3:11-17 is where John baptized Jesus in water as a demonstration for us to follow if you notice Jesus told John for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness and this was done with Water. Acts 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the Water, both Philip and the eunuch and he baptized him. 1Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: faith without works is dead James 2:14-17 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Not by faith only James 2:24 the Bible does say we shall by faith but it says the Just not the Unjust can live by faith because they are still lost until they obey then they can live by faith .

The earliest antiochan vesrsions carry this text but the Codex Vaticanus and Siniaticus do not. Constantine, who mixed Sol Invictus worship with Christianity, ordered new versions in c.335AD it is highly likely that the editing was done then. The Textus Receptus canon was agreed c.250 during the Smyrna or persecution period. Sadly very few of the older fragments remain but El Shaddai oversees His Word and this scripture follows the tenets of the Word. At a stroke it removes any assumptions of the heresy of infant baptism or Augustinian notions of rebaptism.

Isn 't it amazing that people wrest the scriptures to their own destruction. The eunuch believed with his heart. Look at Romans 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed FROM THE HEART that form of doctrine which was delivered you. How did he obey? HE was reading Isaiah and look at Romans 10:16 But they have not all OBEYED the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath BELIEVED our report? In the Church Age believing the gospel is obeying what God requires for salvation. Look at Romans 16:26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the OBEDIENCE OF FAITH Water baptism doesn 't connect you with the blood or anything of the kind. It 's not part of our Gospel for today. Show us a passage stating that the disciples were water baptized according to Acts 2:38 or any other water baptism. The eunuch was water baptized AFTER he was saved not in order to get saved and not part of his salvation. Salvation today is not of WORKS, Romans 4:5.

hebrews 9chap 16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. After Jesus death, john 3:3 is enforced. Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. acts2:38..water and spirit... acts 19:5..john 's disciples, were re-baptised, in Jesus ' name and then received the holy ghost... acts 8:6 ...ethiopian received ..water and spirit.... acts 10:48 ...italian received ..water and spirit...and spoke in tongues. while the bridegroom was with them....mark2:10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins. hince, situations like the thief on the cross. but , Mark 2:20 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them. John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

Isn 't it amazing that the eunuch was reading a prophecy about Jesus in the book of Isaiah and Philip then started at that point and taught him about Jesus and the plan of salvation. The eunuch was then taught baptism played a part in salvation and asked to be baptized. What joy he must have felt after becoming a Christian! Praise God! Think of how many people the eunuch must have told that story to.
  • Joni G on Acts 1 - 11 years ago
From old testament times, God wanted us to love Him as much as He loved us. I love Deuteronomy 30:6. God was talking to the Israelites here but He also wants our hearts circumsized to love Him. I was looking up kingdom in my concordance and Jesus used the word malkuth probably since He spoke in Aramic, not Greek. The Greek word for kingdom is basileia. Jesus spoke of a radical transformation of our hearts spiritually after we became part of the kingdom after being saved. So amazing and beautiful! Acts 8:12. Although we weren 't disciples of Christ and walked with Him, isn 't it wonderful we have His Holy Word to read, study and learn! Praise God!
  • David on Acts 8:33 - 11 years ago
I think this refers to the point that christ was abandoned....no friends no voices to declare who he was..who was his father and his father and past generations, declaring his lineage. But instead he was treated as a reject...no one to speak for his righteous acts, or righteousness.
  • Larry on Acts 8:32 - 11 years ago
It didn 't make sense to the eunuch because it was partially reversed from the passage in Isiah. In Isiah it reads lamb to slaughter and Jesus was referred to as the Lamb of God.
