Hi Gary Jesus died for our sins because he love us with an everlasting love. This is the only way we can obtain eternal life. When Adam and Eve disobey Gods commandment death was our sentence but Jesus redeemed us with His Love. I am presently reading this book "The Story of Redemption" and it as and is a blessing. I recommend you either purchase or download it. I know it will be a blessing to you.

You suggest that the commandments referred to in 1 John 5:2,3 are not the 10 commandments, but some other new commandments of some sort dreamed up by Paul and the apostles.

Jesus states the following:

John 14:15

"If ye love me, keep my commandments."

Jesus speaks the words directly from his Father:

John 12:49

"For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak."

I read and understand clearly that the commandments referred to in the bible by Jesus and his apostles are the 10 Commandments. To believe otherwise is a stretch of imagination, and not backed up by scripture.

Yes, you refer to the Law written in our hearts, it is the same Law that was written on the stone tablets. The law that will last until heaven and earth pass.

Matthew 5:18

"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."

If we truly love Jesus we will keep his commandments.

John 14:15

"If ye love me, keep my commandments."

Jesus also reminds us:

"Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."

As incouragement I believe the Lord hand is mighty!! He has No problem reserving his precious word.

Can you imagine IF little man can snatch a word or 2 out of scripture and derail Gods redemptive plan for all creation? That would render Christ dying on the cross and the resurrection as vain. Our salvation wasn't the only thing depending on the cross, Our sanctification, spiritual walk, and Wisdom depends on it as well.

Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights. The Bible says that at the end, Jesus hungered. He was drinking water. After 3 days, the body starts breaking down without water.

I was taught that not fasting is sort of a reckless lifestyle. Regular fasting dissolves the glue stuck to the walls in our intestines. Fasting makes the body turn upon itself and "eat" up things that are unhealthy.

I fast to get direction from the Lord. I can do a week. God has helped me make hard decisions; He's given me insight on scripture meanings. I've had visions; word of wisdom; word of knowledge. It depends on what you are praying about prior to the fast.

Fast from food, Feed on the Bible.

However, the hardest fasts are to unplug all media. Put the phone on vibrate for emergencies only. Turn all the noise off. Make joyful song yourself, unto the Lord. You are totally free to hear what the Holy Spirit speaks to your spirit.

Satan doesn't want us to fast. You'd be surprised at all the "emergencies that can spring up." :/

Study how Jesus fought spiritually against Satan on that 40 day fast. How did He do the warfare?

This is how we break strongholds in our lives; or in someone else's life (that we are praying for). I think fasting is private and we don't brag about it or cry over glasses of water, when the family is in the kitchen eating meals. It's as unto the Lord.

If you're diabetic, you can still fast. Take your meds, but don't eat pleasant foods to keep yourself stable. Check your levels. Bouillon is warm and makes the body release the hormone that says you're full.

Fasts over a week: when you end it and begin to eat again, nothing real heavy at first. Your body has to awaken slowly for a few days.

Write down what you learn from the Lord during your fast.

Brother Dan, rather than go through all those points again, making this thread repetitious, Romans 8:1-4 shows us where the wonder of the New Covenant lies. And this "isn't a free ticket to sin" as you suggest. And I agree with you, "The scripture is about the Spirits Law - is the Holy Spirit residing in our heart that helps us to avoid sin."

In verse 2, we have a comparison: the Law given by God's Spirit or the Law given at Sinai that revealed sin & brought death. And Paul says that this New Law has freed him from the Old. So the question must be asked, "what is this new Law & how can it replace the old?" You've said that it "helps us to avoid sin". That's certainly the case...and more. The Holy Spirit Who has come to indwell us has only done so as a result of the New Covenant. No Covenant - No indwelling. The Spirit does much in a believer's life: apart from His baptism into God's family & sealing us to never be lost, He teaches us the holy requirements of our Father & convicts us when we err from the Truth & may need to discipline us when we're stubborn.

So does the Spirit's Law differ much from the Decalogue? Jesus gave us a hint in Matthew chapter 5. He spoke to His disciples of the "righteousness of the Scribes & Pharisees". And we know how 'righteous' they were: ensuring every Law was obeyed & their addition of the 'extras' making the Law burdensome to all. But with all that, the commandment was "Thou shalt not kill & Thou shalt not commit adultery". And the religious leaders were careful with that & ensured that all complied or else be punished. Jesus then spoke of the evil & intent that lay in the heart & that's where the commandments were broken.

Now to those with God's Spirit, we can no longer appeal to the Law of Sin & Death, for that will continue to enslave us & give us our due punishment. But through the Spirit, He gives to our hearts & minds the fullness of God's Laws which far surpass the Old. How can we then make any appeal to the Old?

I agree with you on not having to keep the "7th day Sabbath". Another verse I came across tonight to back that is Galatians 4:9-11. I don't know if I understand correctly your statement of "we are commanded the opposite". As I stated, my feeling, that to follow Christ is to be Holy as He is Holy as in 1 Peter 1:14-17, Hebrews 12:14. To strive to keep every day Holy retaining the Lord in us. That following love from a pure heart is what makes God our Father and Christ happy 1 Peter 1:22-23.

To the Ten Commandments. Like I stated I believe they are good and are throughout the NT, as to follow them, though all spread out. Here is one actually discerning it as a commandment of the OT Ephesians 6:1-2. Here are the rest in different places. Romans 1:28-32, Galatians 5:19-21, 2 Timothy 3:1-5, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Colossians 3:1-10. As you are able to go through all those epistles of the NT and see it notes the same things the Ten Commandments tells to us to stay away from. Even more as some are in the Mitzvot laws. As stated there are a lot that are void though just letting the Spirit guide you, you can see the ones that are moral and righteous.

Love from a pure heart is above all and shall never fail Colossians 3:12-17. Walking in the Spirit producing good fruit for the Lord. To keep us from the temptations and lusts of the flesh which leads to sin. Which no one is perfect and may slip and fall. To be vigilant and confess our sins in prayer they shall be forgiven. Though we are to strive to stay away(repent) from sin in our walk with the Lord to be Holy in this temple He has Blessed us with.

Just to make clear if anyone may perceive I'm stating that "good works" is what saves us. That is not true and not what I'm stating. Though we are called by God through Christ to good works Ephesians 2:10. Showing our faith and newness of life in the Lord. All glory to our Father and Jesus Christ. Amen.

There are many ways to remove scriptures from the Bible , and they have been doing it for centuries.

The most common way today and you can go on almost any web site

It's through the word search , they do not include all words and verses where they can be found .

Many people do not read the Bible in book form and miss out on many verses that do not show up in word searches.

I highly recommend reading the Bible in a systematic way rather than through word searches jumping around the Bible . But word searches are convenient but also incomplete.

Thank you Pat, I did go over the Exodus 20 passage you gave. I had to go over it several times, & for the life of me, I can't see "Christ's Name, title and domain" in that passage. I even went to the Hebrew to verify the matter, & even that shows the Name of Yahweh even as verse 10 shows "the LORD thy God". So if there's a Seal in those verses, it isn't evident at all.

Secondly, the Commandments were given to Israel for their explicit direction & obedience. Then what bearing have those commandments have on me, a Gentile? If you feel however, that as a Christian I must then come under the Law that I might then find grace through faith to be accepted of God, then there are ample Scriptures to refute that. But I would also direct you to Acts chapter 15 where this very matter was of great concern. Some were preaching the necessity of circumcision before receiving salvation. Paul, Barnabas, Peter & James spoke on this. The final word was that Gentiles were not required to be circumcised nor to come under the Law (verses 23 to 31), but had to be careful on those parts of the commandments that pertained to eating food offered to idols, consuming blood & fornication. But verse 24 "to be circumcised or keep the Law, we gave no such commandment".

Thirdly, the Sabbath was to be observed by Israel as a day of rest, even as God rested from His Works - thus He hallowed it (made it a holy day, sanctified, set it apart). It was just a day of rest & given for possibly the following reasons: for Israel to trust Him to provide for that day; to rest the body from a working week of six days; to focus on the Lord & not be overcome with work & life's distractions. Indeed, both the Decalogue (including Sabbath) & circumcision marked out Israel as God's peculiar people, which no other nation received.

Fourthly, to take this 4th Commandment & then give it a special status above the other nine, even to implying it as the seal of God rather than from the Holy Spirit, is disturbing. GBU.

I love discussing the Bible. I see this scripture as saying that greed steals the life away of the one who is greedy. Working to amass wealth requires dedication, sacrifice, and for most compromise of morality and integrity. We lose our life because our focus is not on God. Some deemed as workaholics will spend their who life at the job. They are quick to sell away their life motivated by the greed of gain.

Reading Jeremiah 44:17, do you think this was where the hail mary (catholic) use began?. To me it looks like it, confirm.

A person cannot judge another man for not keeping the Sabbath in the Christian Church under the New Covenant. Under the Old Covenant, a person was required to judge such a person and stone them to death.

However, in the New Covenant given to the Christian Church, the Elders of a Church are indeed required to judge a man who is sinning such as by committing fornication.

At 1 Corinthians 5:1-13, there is a case of a man who is living in a state of sexual immorality. The Apostle Paul tells the Elders of that Church to judge and disfellowship that individual. Notice:

1 Corinthians 5: 12, 13 "For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person."

That unrepentant, sinful person had to be judged and be thrown out of the Church. Yes, those who break the serious laws of the New Covenant, such as fornication - a serious sin - were judged and expelled.

However, no Christian could be judged for not keeping the Sabbath since the Sabbath was only given to Israel in the Old Covenant. The Apostle Paul and the other Apostles never commanded the Church to keep the Sabbath. If the Sabbath was that important, why would he not do so? Colossians 2:14-16 explains why. I invite you to read it.

As for Matthew 5:18, I would suggest you also read the other portion of that statement recorded at Luke 16:16:

Luke 16:16 "The law and the prophets were UNTIL John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it."

The Old Covenant was until John. Then, Jesus at his death with his blood, instituted the New Covenant or New Testament - laws found in the books of Romans to Revelation to the Christian Church - the so-called New Testament.

I would also invite you to read Jeremiah 31:31-33 and Luke 22:20.

I would suggest that the "commandments" referred to in 1 John 5:2, 3 are not the 10 commandments nor the Mosaic Law commandments. If that were so, then Christians would be obligated to circumcise their children as per God's commandment at Leviticus 12:3. The New Testament said that circumcision is not required at Acts 15. Yet, that was a commandment of God. If we are to obey all God's commandments, then why do we not go up to Jerusalem three times a year as was commanded by God's commandment at Deuteronomy 16:16. Why do we not stone adulterers and adulteresses as commanded by God at Leviticus 20:10. That was his commandment.

I would suggest that the "commandments" of God referred to at 1 John 5:2, 3 are the New Covenant commandments that were given to the Church through the Apostles via revelations such as to the Apostle Paul and inspiration as others wrote the New Testament - Romans to Revelation. In those instructions, we are never commanded to keep the Sabbath Day holy nor to keep the kosher laws. In fact, we are commanded the opposite:

Colossians 2:16 "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:"

Therefore, Christians do not obey the Old Covenant Mosaic Law given to ancient Israel but only to the New Covenant Laws given to the Church via the Apostles through the epistles of Romans to Revelation. Jeremiah had prophesied such at:

Hi Chris. Ok Read Exodus 20: 8-11. in reference to the seal of God. Verse 11 bears the seal of God. It shows Christ's name, title and domain (Jesus or Lord, creator and heaven and earth). Just like a Justice of the peace. His/seal bears the name, title and district, parish or state. Revelation 14:9-11. The mark of the beast is the changing of God's Sabbath to Sunday by the beast power, Rome. It actually is the very thing they claim shows their authority is higher than that of God's word. Why does God tell us such terrible things will happen to those who receive this mark? God does not punish someone for breaking a law that he honestly knows nothing about, and never has a chance to learn about. The final test will be set up with two choices; obey God and keep His 7th Day Sabbath, be persecuted by man and be saved or obey man-made laws to force people to keep Sunday and receive the seven last plaques and be loss. Christians are no longer under the Old Covenant Laws (the 10 commandments followed by approximately another 600 laws). Jeremiah prophesied:

Jeremiah 31:31, 32 "Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:

You will notice that the New Covenant would NOT be like the Old Covenant. The New Covenant was inaugurated by the shed blood of Christ as per:

Luke 22:20 "Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you."

Under this New Covenant, the Laws being stipulated namely in Romans to Revelation, we are never commanded to keep the Sabbath Day holy. In fact, we are commanded the opposite.

Colossians 2:16 "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:"

Before the Mosaic Law was given at the time of the exodus from Egypt, the Bible never says that the faithful kept the Sabbath Day - whether that be Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, etc. Notice when the Sabbath was given and to whom:

Nehemiah 9:13, 14 "Thou camest down also upon mount Sinai, and spakest with them from heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commandments: And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant:

Ezekiel 20:10-12 Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness. And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them. Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them...

The word "them" is referring to ancient Israel.
