I am truly amazed at the divine power that God gave to David. Remember 1 Samuel 16:7 states that Goliah's spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. David is just a lad and Goliah's spear is awful heavy, too heavy for David. Yet, David used Goliah's spear to cut off his head. Has anyone thought of this! It had to have been the power of God to give David the strength to even lift the spear. What an awesome God we serve. There is nothing to difficult for Him. Hallelujah!
I love this TRUE story from the Bible. Never gets old, as my oldest daughter likes to say. And that's so true - it is indeed invigorating to read just how God can use ANYBODY that has big faith. I loved the comment about how they might feel about our sports players of today, and is also a good point.
Most of all, I'm so grateful this God is our God and He'll do the same for us as He did David!!
@Irene123 The average man’s height at that time was about five and a half feet so Goliath who was approximately nine feet six inches must have seemed really big to those guys lol Can you imagine what they would think of the basketball players we have today?
Yay!,I think this is one of my fav stories, and it does leave a rather inspiring feeling of where FAITH leads you,he was a mere boy but with GOD,he smote that giant:),it is amazing and invigorating to read such content and be reminded of the AWESOMENESS one feels and acomplishes with GOD on our side, funny I've been wanting to read this story but couldnt remember the ch. and here I am,thanks Dad!:-)
Our God is awesome. The story of David and Goliath reminds us of the power of God over ALL forces. After all, He is the Creator of the universe (multiverse) and everything is under His control. To draw from this immeasurable source of power, we must love and obey Him. We must stay at the centre of His will all the time and victory over the Goliaths in our lives, including sin, will be assured.
To B. K. Miller - Also, angels are Spirits; they cannot reproduce. I've seen this question on here many times from different men - never from a woman. As to giants; really now how big does a giant have to be? The Israelites were and are a relatively short people, like their 'brothers' the Ishmaelites. And look at f'ball and basketball men. They are giants.
To Brian k. Miller - There's nothing wrong with researching for things not found in God's word, but if He wants us to know something, i.e. Goliath's father - It will be in His word, as a general rule. Goliath's father isn't pertinent to salvation. Neither Goliath, BUT - his story was - faith in God and not man, i.e. Saul's armor.
You have to just love David; Ps. 20:17 - ".....but we will remember the name of the Lord our God." 1 Sam. 17:45 - "....., but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts ....."; (who is the 'phillistine' to defy the armies of the living God?!"). I love it, I love it; HALLELUJAH!!!
Those that do know their God they shall wax and they shall do exploit.
David knew in him whom he believed and he was not ashamed.
Always know God and he will always prove himself as one in your life.
To me this is to show us who fights for us and were not to get into fear: David's defeats before
this what gave him Faith to know he could do it again and he was upset that this giant defy the
army of Israel that was the Lords people! Shows only armor we need is Eph. 6:
Jehovah is the God that maketh impossible things possible, from the eyes of David cannot do anything, but being a respecter of no man uses any vessel that yields to his dealings , so he used David.
David didn 't see himself as a servant of Saul like everyone else did, he saw Himself as a servant of the Most High God. He declared what he would do in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel. The God of the Battles.
Have faith in God. And as His children we must be humble in everything we do. Never rely on our own strength but on His strength. But we have comes from Him and we must praise and thank Him. Everything is possible with God in His own time and will.
1 Samuel 17 46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel........The LORD is able to deliver our enemies into our hands JESUS is our champion .
We should always rely on God in every thing we do.As long as we have seen the power of God in our life before, we should know that he will show himself strong again.
we shouldn 't be afraid of what we can see with our own eyes, who can ONLY destroy the flesh but NOT the soul bt HE who we cant destroy both the flesh and soul.
Most of all, I'm so grateful this God is our God and He'll do the same for us as He did David!!
That scripture, it helped to know my self and believe in myself what about you?
David knew in him whom he believed and he was not ashamed.
