11Then said Iesus vnto Peter, Put vp thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my father hath giuen me, shall I not drinke it? 12Then the band and the captaine, and officers of the Iewes, tooke Iesus, and bound him, 13And led him away to Annas first, (for he was father in law to Caiaphas) which was the high Priest that same yeere. 14Now Caiaphas was he which gaue counsell to the Iewes, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people. 15¶ And Simon Peter followed Iesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was knowen vnto the high Priest, and went in with Iesus into the palace of the high Priest.

18:13 Annas had been high priest before his son - in - law Caiaphas. And though he had for some time resigned that office, yet they paid so much regard to his age and experience, that they brought Christ to Annas first. But we do not read of any thing remarkable which passed at the house of Annas; for, which reason, his being carried thither is omitted by the other evangelists. #Mt 26:57|; Mr 14:53; Lu 22:54.
