5But now I goe my way to him that sent mee, and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? 6But because I haue saide these things vnto you, sorow hath filled your heart. 7Neuerthelesse; I tell you the trueth, it is expedient for you that I goe away: for if I goe not away, the Comforter will not come vnto you: but if I depart, I will send him vnto you. 8And when he is come, he will reproue the world of sinne, and of righteousnesse, and of iudgement. 9Of sinne, because they beleeue not on me.

Joh 16:7 It is expedient for you that I depart. What seemed then a crushing sorrow was a real blessing. His mission could never be accomplished unless he went away. For if I go not away, the Comforter will not come. While Christ was present in person, in bodily form, the Holy Spirit, the representative of the Godhead, could not come. Christ, as King, must send him, and on the day of Pentecost Peter declared, "He hath shed forth the things ye do see and hear" (Ac 2:33).
