1These things haue I spoken vnto you, that yee should not be offended. 2They shall put you out of the Synagogues: yea, the time commeth, that whosoeuer killeth you, will thinke that hee doeth God seruice. 3And these things will they doe vnto you, because they haue not knowen the Father, nor me. 4But these things haue I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not vnto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

Wesley's Notes for John 16:2
16:2 The time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think he doth God service - But, blessed be God, the time is so far past, that those who bear the name of Christ do not now generally suppose they do him service by killing each other for a difference in opinion or mode of worship.
People's Bible Notes for John 16:2
Joh 16:2 They shall put you out of the synagogues. Excommunicate you. The first persecutions were Jewish. Whoever killeth you will think he doeth God a service. Even so Saul of Tarsus thought while persecuting the saints (Ac 22:3,4). Fanaticism has always held the slaughter of those who are deemed heretics to be praiseworthy.
