Wesley's Notes for Genesis 48:16

48:16 The angel who redeemed me from all evil - A great deal of hardship he had known in his time, but God had graciously kept him from the evil of his troubles. Christ, the angel of the covenant is he that redeems us from all evil. It becomes the servants of God, when they are old and dying, to witness for our God that they have found him gracious. Joseph had placed his children so, as that Jacob's right - hand should be put on the head of Manasseh the eldest, #Ge 48:12|,13, but Jacob would put it on the head of Ephraim the youngest, #Ge 48:14|. This displeased Joseph, who was willing to support the reputation of his first - born and would therefore have removed his father's hands, #Ge 48:17|,18, but Jacob gave him to understand that he knew what he did, and that he did it neither by mistake nor in a humour, nor from a partial affection to one more than the other, but from a spirit of prophecy.

Donna, it is not true that the youngest person always get the most blessings. It is God 's providence that determine the person to receive the most blessings because he and only he knows what any person will be or become according to the use of God 's grace. Rom. 9:15 says, "For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion ". God bless us all also in the understanding of his Word. Glory be to Jehovah in the highest through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen!

@ Lisa: Just a word of encouragement, I'm a 35 year old man who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 5... I've dealt with this for 30 years and I'm very healthy now, in fact, my body hasn't deteriorated and they changed my diagnosis in 2004 to Becker Muscular Dystrophy because it is not as aggressive... I KNOW that God is going to heal my body completely so continue to believe for that miracle you seek and stay in the word of God, He will NEVER steer you wrong... My prayers are with you, Godspeed!!

The boy's were behind Jacob and Joseph just reposition them.
I see God's promise being fulfilled according to the time
He is using another generation to do as he said.
I also see the truth in how each of us have been chosen to serve in regards to family; community; and life.
  • who is 'thee' in this verse? God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh. I can not make any sense of it or find any commentary. Everyone speaks to the order only.
